Christmas Time is Here
I know you heard that song…” Christmastime is here, Happiness and cheer.” That melancholy melody plays along with Charlie Brown and Snoopy in the cartoon special. It’s funny because it says happiness and cheer, but the melody seems sad. So many people experience sadness this time of year. I know in my family my son struggles with enjoying Christmas, and it is tied to memories of sorrow, disappointment and abandonment. So, when I try to express joy, I have to realize the trauma attached to this time of year.
I feel hope. I used to walk along the street at night and look into the big living room windows of the houses. There you would see this warm light emanating from the window and if the curtains were open, sometimes you’d see a family in the room together and sometimes there would be an embrace or laughter. It was a place I wanted to be invited to. A place of warmth, acceptance and love. A place where laughter would ring and joy would bubble out.
That’s what Christmas time is to me. It is the door opening and being invited in to the most loving home ever.
Jesus came to earth, he opened the door to the warmest house on the block. There inside is a loving father ready to embrace you with open arms. There inside is a family that bubbles with laughter from the joy inside them. The joy of Jesus.
Welcome Home, It’s Christmas Time.
“I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.” (John 12:46, NASB)
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace". Isaiah 9:6
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke2:11
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." Luke 15:20
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
