Faith in the Fire

My son had to drive to a work project on icy roads one Wednesday and then a week later had to fly for work.  Each time there was a fleeting moment in my brain “dear God, please keep him safe.”  Which I believe is a prayer that is okay to say to God but the fear that accompanies it, maybe not. 

I was looking at the bible story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3:16-28.  These 3 men were told to bow down before King Nebuchadnezzar.  They said no, and the king was angry and told them he would turn up the furnace on a fire seven times.  But these young men stated “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver usfrom Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” 

They had such faith in God that they stated even if God didn’t save them, they would still serve Him.  Still believe, still worship. 

Do we have that kind of faith.  In the midst of the fire, you know the fires.  The end of a marriage, the death of a child, the layoff, the car crash, the tornado, the murder, the kidnapping, you name it, the evil.  Will you faith stay strong?  Will you stand in the fire knowing that Jesus is with you?  Nebuchadnezzar said he saw 4 men walking in the fire, Jesus was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  Jesus is with us in the midst of the fire.  The bible tells us in Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”

Even though things go wrong we can trust in God.  He will uphold us, he will bring us peace, and joy even in the pain.
