"It don't matter if your black or white"

03/25/26

I was watching a movie last night.  The movie was The Torture Report (2019).  In the film, FBI agent Daniel Jones performs an exhaustive investigation into the CIA's use of torture on suspected terrorists. In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the CIA adopted new interrogation techniques.

As I sat watching the movie, I kept just flinching.  How could someone torture someone?  How can there be so much hate?  I struggle with what is the line for national security and human rights.

But what I know is that God calls us to love everyone.  Galatians 3:26 “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,” We are all brothers and sisters in faith and those outside of the faith Galatians 6:10 tells us. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone.” And Luke 6:5 “But love your enemies, do good to them... Then your reward will be great"

I know the bible tells us that God often ordered the Israelites to go to war with other nations   1 Samuel 15:18 says, “Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; make war on them until you have wiped them out.” Obviously God is not against all war.    Why?  We are all fallen, full of sin, and there is evil.  In a world filled with evil people, sometimes war is necessary to prevent even greater evil.  Ecclesiastes 3:8 declares, “There is…a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”

What does a Christian do?  Christians should not desire war, but we are also not to oppose the government God has placed in authority over us (Romans 13:1-4; Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.”)

Our Government is put in place by GOD even if you don’t agree with the leader or the policy we are to pray for them, pray for wisdom for the leadership and praying for the safety of our soldiers, praying for quick resolution to conflicts, and praying for a minimum of casualties among civilians on both sides.

Michael Jackson sang a song “Black or White” the lyrics say “And I told about equality
And it's true
Either you're wrong or you're right
Ooh

But if you're thinkin' about my baby
It don't matter if you're black or white
Ooh”

I think that’s what God wants us to say. It don’t matter what color, nationality or creed. We are to love them all.
