Katsu Curry

2/12/26

Last night I was making one of my family favorites – Katsu Curry.  When you read the ingredients, they don’t sound like they work, potatoes, carrots, curry, onions, pork, rice.  But when you add them in the right order and with the right spices, it makes a delicious dish.  One that warms you from the inside out.

Humans don’t work well together.  I heard a comedian say one time it only took 4 people on the planet before someone killed someone.  The sin nature in us controls us and we don’t choose the peaceful and good path.

But God calls us to work together.

1 Corinthians 12:14-27 (ESV): "For the body does not consist of one member but of many... If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."

Galatians 6:2 (NIV): "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

God took all the ingredients and by themselves they don’t work, but with his spirit in us and guiding us together we do work, creating a community that shines Jesus’ light.  2 Corinthians 2:15 “For we are to God a sweet fragrance of Christ among those who are saved and among those who perish” Working together and showing others, the love of Christ is a sweet aroma.

Just like my son saying last night, “boy that smells good.” We should be a fragrance to those around us that would draw men to Christ.

Have you ever read through the news headlines, heard a story on the radio or had a friend tell you about something happening in the world and wish it would all stop?  I do, the world is so broken, so hurtful (and hurting) so mean!

What if people weren’t so self-seeking?  What if people were kind again?  What if we cared about our neighbors and helped the poor?  We’ve become so divided we don’t know how to care!

The bible gives so many directives on how to live with other humans.  If we followed His word, it could change the world.  I think that is what it means when he says "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" Matthew 5:16

Just peruse this list for a moment:

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Ephesians 4:25- Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear

James 1:19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

Proverbs 18:13 If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Can you imagine living in a world where people built each other up, were kind, forgiving, slow to speak anger, taking time to listen? It would be Heaven.

I’ve seen small glimpses of that world and it is a place I want to live.  Jesus says we will be with him “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” John 14:3

When we were alone after leaving a bad marriage, I had one car for myself and 2 children who were driving.  A beautiful family just gave us a car.  When that car became undrivable another wonderful man gave us a different car.  Not for any recognition or benefit, just out of kindness.  Truly God’s hands and feet.

Let’s make this world a place where people can see Jesus and be drawn to him!
